We approached Thatcher Consulting in April 2015 to help us source more female applicants onto our 2015/6 Graduate Recruitment Programme. Historically we have placed an advert on the Russell Group careers websites and the generic graduate recruitment websites such as Milkround. We were looking for a new approach.
Thatcher Consulting listened to our issues, and quickly proposed a creative solution a week later, which involved re-writing our advert to make it more attractive to female candidates, and emailing the advert to cohorts of final year female students at 10 specific universities. We also placed our adverts on the careers websites to target the wider audience. They liaised with the various Careers Services and orchestrated the targeted email programme, removing all the hassle from us. They also sourced an opportunity at QMUL to send a senior female banker to contribute to a panel at an evening event for students interested in careers in Finance.
The results were pleasing – we had a 38% increase in female applicants from 2014, and the overall number of applicants rose by 20%.
And importantly, they kept within the agreed budget!
